Texas Public Hunting Land

The Tracker Outdoors Pro Staff research and hunt Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Army Corps of Engineers and The National Forest Service public hunting lands in Texas and write reviews based on their experience. Our public hunting land reviews include information such as contact information, permit requirements, hunter education requirements, acreage, game available to hunt, terrain, hunting methods, camping facilities and articles about our experiences on these lands. If you plan to hunt on public hunting land in Texas, you will want to read our public hunting land reviews.

Texas Parks & Wildlife

Texas Parks & WildlifeThe Texas Annual Public Hunting Permit (APH) provides nearly year-round hunting on approximately 1.2 million acres of land. Each year, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department publishes maps of land open for public hunting. The APH Permit allows access to public hunting lands listed in this booklet. Hunting is allowed for small game, turkey, white-tailed deer, exotics, predators and furbearers without having to pay daily permit fees. See our reviews of the TPWD Public Hunting Lands.

Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District works in close partnership with Texas Parks & Wildlife to provide hunting opportunities on approximately 185,000 acres. Camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and hiking are just the beginning of the activities available in the parks and other public lands managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. See our Reviews of the Corps of Engineers Public Hunting Lands for more information.

National Forest

National ForestThe recreation areas of the National Forests & Grasslands in Texas offer a variety of hunting opportunities. Wildlife management areas in the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas include the Alabama Creek WMA in the Davy Crockett National Forest, Bannister WMA in the Angelina National Forest, Caddo WMA in the Caddo National Grassland and the Moore Plantation WMA in the Sabine National Forest.
